This past fall St. Cloud was selected as a finalist in The International Awards for Livable Communities (The LivCom Awards) and was invited to participate in the 2007 LivCom finals in Westminster, London from November 22-26, 2007.
Joe Nathan was given the task to produce a 12 minute video depicting our quality of life in St. Cloud. Needless to say it was a stressful 8 weeks they had to pull off this last minute production. Thanks to the help of many civic minding citizens, they were able to complete the video in the nick of time! Joe had the privilege to be a member of the City's Delegation and travel to London!
The LivCom Awards is the world’s only competition for local communities that focuses on environmental management and the creation of liveable communities. The aim of The LivCom Awards is to encourage best practice, innovation and leadership in providing vibrant, environmentally sustainable communities that improve the quality of life for people worldwide.
More than fifty local and regional governments are invited to make a final presentation at the finals in the host city of Westminster, London. The City of St. Cloud is one of two finalists from the United States in Category B (population of 20,001 to 75,000) of the Whole City Awards Section of the 2007 LivCom Awards. The eleven finalists in Category B represented eight countries from around the world.
The City of St. Cloud brought home two GOLD medal awards from the event in London. They were selected, along with Kladno, Czech Republic, to receive the Gold award in Category B (cities with populations of 20,001 to 75,000) as the title holder of The Most Liveable City. As if that wasn’t tribute enough, they were further selected as the one and only recipient of the Planning for the Future Award--- selected from all participating cities from all population categories from all over the world.
The LivCom Awards are non-political and embraces all nations and cultures. The LivCom Awards are endorsed by the United Nations Environment Program.
