On Dec. 7, CTV North Suburbs hosted the Quarterly Brown Bag for MACTA members at its Roseville studio. CTV Senior Technician Pat Cook demonstrated two different portable mobile production options that could be used instead of a full-fledged production van:

Wirecast software runs on a laptop and allows live switching between multiple camera inputs and a presenter’s PowerPoint show. The laptop records program video and streams live to the web. It’s very portable—a laptop plus a backpack of cables and accessories. Camcorders and tripods round out this mobile production option.

Black Magic Atem 1-rack unit switcher can handle both SDI and HDMI inputs. The equipment rack is mounted in portable cases that could be lifted into a van or truck.

The presentation was followed by a pizza lunch courtesy of MACTA, and brief updates from each attendee. Thank you to CTV for hosting this event. MACTA Quarterly Brown Bags are a membership benefit and are held at sites across the metro area to allow members to tour facilities.
