Suburban Community Channels

  


 

1. What year was your organization established?
The Ramsey/Washington Counties Cable Communications Commission was founded in 1981, and its community television operation, Suburban Community Channels (SCC-TV) was formed in 1985.

2. What city/cities does your organization serve?
We serve eleven municipalities in the northeast metro including:  Birchwood Village, Dellwood, Grant, Willernie, Mahtomedi, White Bear Lake, White Bear Township, Vadnais Heights, Lake Elmo, North St. Paul and Oakdale.

3. What is the approximate population of the area your organization serves?
Our population is approximately 110,000. 

4. What is the board/management structure?
The Ramsey/Washington Counties Cable Communications Commission/SCC is governed by an 11-member board of directors. Each municipality appoints a director to the board, as well as an alternate director. The board meetings are televised live on cable and are available on-line in both live and on-demand form. 5. How many full-time and part-time staff members?
We have 15 full-time employees at the current time. Additionally, the operations rely on significant help from volunteers, college work-study students, and freelancers. 

6. How many channels does your organization manage?
We manage 18 channels.

7. Do you have a fun fact or story about your organization?
The staff of Ramsey/Washington Counties Cable Communications Commission/SCC is not only expert in the field of community television, but collectively has about 6,000 stage appearances performing as musicians, dancers, or actors. A very talented crew!
