1. What year was your organization established?

Burnsville Community Television (BCTV) began as a stand-alone entity in 2009 with the construction of its studio in Burnsville High School. Prior to 2009, Burnsville was part of the joint Burnsville/Eagan Telecommunications Commission.

4. What is the board/management structure?

BCTV is part of the City of Burnsville’s Communications Department, and is overseen by the City’s Communications Coordinator. The City Council serves as the local cable franchise administrator.

5. How many full-time and part-time staff members?

BCTV employs 2.5 full-time employees and four part-time employees.

 

6. How many channels does your organization manage?

BCTV produces content for and programs two channels:

    • BCTV 14:Community sports, entertainment and community-produced programming.
    • BCTV 16/HD 859: Government programming, meeting coverage, public service announcements, news and government-related events.


BCTV also rebroadcasts three education channels, produced by school districts serving the area:

    • Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191
    • Lakeville Area School District 194
    • Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District 196

7. Do you have a fun fact or story about your organization?

BCTV is currently in the process of upgrading its shared mobile television production truck (shared with Eagan Television) to high definition. After the upgrade is complete – BCTV will be entirely high definition from all of its production sources.

BCTV oversees production of government programming as well as community/sporting events such as concerts, high school sports, etc. Production classes are offered to residents and non-profit organizations free-of-charge to enable them to provide community-produced programming.
