8:30-9 a.m. Registration and continental breakfast

9 a.m.-11 a.m. Pre-scripted videos and documentary-style videos

  • The classic story structure:  foreshadowing and building to a climax
  • Finding a protagonist
  • Thematic writing
  • Writing for both the ear (conversation) and the eye (video)
  • Avoiding narration:  when you don’t want narration, how can you make sure you’re telling the story clearly?

11 a.m.-12 p.m. Video workshop and critique
Participants are invited to submit videos ahead of time for critique at this session by Ken and the attendees. You’ll learn how improved writing and storytelling may have changed the final product. Up to six pieces will be accepted for critiquing. Please submit a link to the online product with your registration or send an email with a link to info@mactamn.org by February 21, and explain why you would like the piece critiqued. If time allows, Ken will also touch on mind mapping as a tool for video creation.

12-1 p.m. Lunch/socializing/tour of new St. Louis Park City Council Chambers control room
